Which is the most reliable brand of skid steer loader for land clearing?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

We need to replace our old failing BobCat loader. We're using it to move rocks, remove multiflora rose, and fallen small trees and generally push debris around. Not sure if BobCat is the most reliable anymore. Also to do some light grading and snow removal. It's being used on sloping terrain.

Cat is a good brand. I don't think there is a lot of difference between the brands anymore in that they all have attachements and longevity. I would talk to a rental supply house. Ask them which one will accept other brands attachements. Go for your most versatility.

I have a pre 1980 mustang Skid Steer Loader. How do find the model number?

I think it is a 1200 but am not sure. Models 1000, 1200, 1200a, 1400 look very close.

The obvious answer, it should be on the side in big letters.

The less obvious answer, there will be a plate somewhere on the frame. It should be metal and probably 2"x4". If it's not on the top support rail (if you're in the operator's seat, look up), then look in the engine compartment towards the back of the skid steer.
